I found this distracting and ‘helped’ the skyline achieve better coolness with a small drop in EV. This low-lying fog came in Northward and enveloped the lower parts of buildings as it crept. Near towers are still fully exposed while into the distance only the tops of each structure is visible, creating 'islands' of each building or smokestack in the sea of fog. The limitations of this DX lens are clearly visible with the vignetting visible in the upper corners which gives an interesting ‘fishbowl’ effect to this image. How about enough to build this GLEAMING city! Whenever I look at this image I think of the Emerald City from the ‘Wizard of Oz’. While on a cruise I took this shot of Panama City in the distance as we transited the canal near the Pacific Ocean side. As an example of just how much revenue comes from the canal our ship’s single daylight transit of the canal, arranged a year prior, cost approx $800k USD. It was a big ship (Norwegian Bliss) and we used the new locks, but that’s a LOT of garbanzo beans. I found the contrast from ‘soft and flowing’ meadow to ‘upright and structured’ forest particularly striking. I wonder if the soldiers ever had a chance to enjoy such scenes and I’m very glad to have freedom today to travel almost anywhere and enjoy such landscapes. Taken at a relatively quick 1/1000th’s of a sec and with minimal processing, the water retains its texture and power necessary in power generation. What this photo fails to show well is the scale which is 51 m (167 ft) from base to top and 2.58 million litres (681,750 gallons) of water flow over the Horseshoe section of the falls per second. The Canadian fall was quickly coming to an end and small pools of water were even ice-crusted this morning. Closing down the aperture to get a more ‘star-like’ sun meant a longer exposure of more than a second for this tripod mounted shot. While the effect worked quite well on the mid-to-background the foreground of this image paid the price of the longer exposure as items there have lost their sharpness. Next time a composited image of short exposure for foreground and similar background might be better. The air was below freezing but the water was still above freezing in this photo dated Dec 8, 2017. As the waves moved the water up and down the contact with the twig left residual water that froze into these bulbous shapes at the low points.
